This is a component-based surface installation completed in collaboration with Hungkit Yuen. We juxtaposed opposing physical properties by pairing paper cups with rubber bands. Our piece explores the possibility of transforming the cups into flexible components; by unrolling the cups in increments, they slowly start to act more like rubber bands. At one end of the spectrum, we have rigid cups with elastic rubber bands, and at the other we have elastic cups with elastic rubber bands. The cups are connected linearly to display the gradual change. When the columns of cups connect, a twisting pattern emerges that initiates changes in depth and porosity.
